Eurocentric Pitfalls in the Practice of African Philosophy: Reflections on African Universities

We argue that African philosophy scholars are sometimes blinded by Eurocentric tendencies in the practice of philosophy, and it is important to identify overcome these problems. The research gap we intend fill route self-examination, self-criticism self-evaluation has been underexplored at universities Africa. self-understanding necessary for reconstruction indigenous elements purpose development. Firstly, divided along lines analytic continental philosophy. such a dualism closes other approaches Secondly, done language colonisers; however, concepts from languages remain largely unexplored. Thirdly, approach making “universal” “transcultural,” results seeking general fails accommodate diversity richness cultures. Fourthly, as practised universities, tends disregard culture basis philosophical thought trying make scientific objective. decolonial thinking means more genuine.
